In less than a week, the simple, yet profound Art of Living Part I Course brings to our experience that life is truly beautiful! The Sudarshan Kriya, is a powerful energizer and cleanser, while the knowledge discussed in the course, presents life’s deepest secrets in a language that is easily understood. Life is much more than our innumerable habitual daily routines... It is so much more than just eating, drinking, sleeping, working, chatting...

The Program opens our eyes, mind and heart to how much more meaningful and complete our lives can be. In a harmonious environment, it’s easy to say, “I feel peaceful and contented.” However, if nothing goes to plan and there is utter chaos all around, and you still say, “Yes! I am peaceful and happy,” then you have attained something very special indeed... That is The Art of Living... and that is what the Part I course brings to our experience.

A crest jewel in the Art of Living is the healing breath known as Sudarshana Kriya.

This unique breathing practice is a potent energizer.  Every cell becomes fully oxygenated and flooded with new life.  Negative emotions that have been stored as toxins in the body are easily uprooted and flushed out. Tension, frustrations and anger get released. Anxiety, depression and lethargy are washed away.  Both the mind and the body feel a welcome relief.  After the practice, one is left calm and centered with a clearer vision of the world and of oneself.  A sense of joy in the moment prevails where once again we can smile from our hearts.  And when we feel good about ourselves, love flows naturally in all our relationships with others.

How can a breathing practice be so beneficial? How does it work?

More than a mere breathing exercise, the rhythms of breath during Sudarshan Kriya technique carry deep significance. Rhythms abound everywhere in nature: day follows night, tides  rise and fall, seasons come and go, countless biological rhythms exist in the body.  There are also rhythms of mind and emotions.  When these rhythms are in sync, we feel a sense of harmony and well being.  When stress throws us off balance, chaotic rhythms are created within us.  Then we feel a sense of discomfort and discontent.  The mind wavers vacillating between worries about the future and regrets of the pasts.  We find that we do not fully enjoy our lives in the present moment, here and now.

A solution can be found with the breath-link between mind and body.  Like other rhythms throughout nature, our .breath also moves in specific patterns at particular times.  Have you ever observed your breath when you felt anxious? Or angry or relaxed… content... happy?  Every emotion is instantly reflected in the rhythm of the breath.

When we reintroduce natural rhythms into our breath, our body, mind and emotions can be brought from a condition of chaos to a state of balance.  This is the practice of Sudarshan Kriya.

The effect is immediate and tangible.  The internal discard from past sorrows and disappointments is retuned into a soothing symphony of peace and serenity.  Even the most intense or debilitating emotions subside after ten minutes of practice.  One is left free to enjoy life – alert to the present moment and centered in the silence of one’s Being.

Sudarshan kriya is a completely natural process that was cognized by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar during divine meditation on March 4 and 5, 1982.  From these auspicious dates we mark the beginning of the Master’s gift of the Art of Living to people throughout the world.

Sudarshan kriya is a powerful tool for daily living.  It is simple to learn and easy to practice.  It is a technique of direct experience that you can receive during the Art of Living Workshop.  Afterwards, daily practice at home ensures that you enjoy maximum benefits.

Miracles of Breath

Breathing is the first act of our lives.  Within the breath is the secret of life.  Breath is linked to the vital life energy in us, or prana.  We gain prana through air, fresh food and rest – and also through meditation. A lack of prana results in lethargy, dullness and poor enthusiasm. When our bodies are lively with prana, we feel alert ,energetic and full of good humor.  Prana is the very basis of health and well being for both body and mind.

Prana is more abundant in fresh air than in stale air. (compare how you feel after an hour in stuffy, room versus an hour walking in a forest or near the ocean surf..) Yet whatever the air quality we live in our health can be dramatically enhanced with  pranayama - deep breathing practices that open the lungs and maximize the absorption of prana.. The words prana + ayama mean to live from the dimension of prana - to live fullness of life.  Pranayama techniques recharge the cells, keeping us young and vital with resilient health and brilliant clarity of mind.

ART EXCEL

ART EXCEL stands for All Round Training in Excellence. As the name suggests, children get training covering all aspects - physical, mental, spiritual.

It is a highly effective stress management and human values training program.

Through play and fun and laughter, children learn valuable lessons on how to share with others, work and play in harmony and develop a sense of belongingness.  They become more self-expressive and comfortable and natural even with diverse groups of people.

They are also taught some yoga and effective and powerful breathing processes which help to eliminate fear, anxiety, depression and other undesirable emotions.

Meditation, being an important tool to tap the children's hidden potential, forms an integral part of the program.

To truly excel in life is an art, and though much emphasis has traditionally been placed on higher academic achievement, more can be done to give children the tools to handle stress and live life to their fullest potential. The true measure of success is a happy, healthy, well-adjusted child that is able to deal effectively with life’s challenges.

The ART Excel course is a highly effective stress management and human values training program for children. A unique aspect of the program is a specific set of breathing techniques that systematically release emotional and physical stress. Children can use these techniques in any situation to bring about a state of calmness and relaxation, and human values such as joy, friendliness and compassion that are naturally present in children but may have been hidden by stress become apparent.

The Youth Empowerment Seminar (YES!) is a dynamic and innovative program for teens which includes practical tools for releasing stress, techniques for mental focus and concentration, tools for dealing with negative emotions, leadership skills, problem-solving strategies, yoga exercises and community service. The techniques and skills teens learn help them deal with the demands of school and work, relationships, friends, and parents smoothly.

YES! for Teens is a program that revolutionizes how teens deal with the increasing social and academic pressures of adolescence. The course provides students with problem-solving strategies and leadership training, skills on how to release stress, manage negative emotions and advanced techniques for non-violent conflict resolution. It places a special  emphasis on education that fosters human values, a sense of belonging, a broader vision and attitude of service toward others. Experiential processes are designed to help teens feel at ease in challenging situations and foster the increased confidence and inner strength needed to better handle criticism, peer pressure and rise above life’s challenges while keeping enthusiasm and a deep reverence for all life.

Cultivating an attitude of service toward others and feeling empowered to effect positive social change is essential part of the human values education in the YES! course. Community service projects are organized either during the course, or post-course in order to integrate the human values education into their lives through first hand experience. Youth are challenged to go beyond their limited perspective to consider the world at large, developing a broader vision for both themselves, their community and society as a whole.

Every successful Corporate House worth its salt knows the importance of maintaining and upgrading facilities and equipment to obtain optimum performance levels. Many companies, however, fail to give an equal amount of attention to their most precious resource – their employees. With increasing competition, and pressure to do things cheaper, better and faster, the quality of an employee’s life is often overlooked.

When problems of stress and conflict in the workplace are not remedied, employees grow frustrated, or feel overwhelmed, and this leads to problems like greater absenteeism, decreased motivation, limited creativity and a deterioration in morale. Prison SMART

The Prison program was developed by His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar with the underlying principle that every culprit is himself/herself a victim of their circumstances. It is customized for application within high stress environments like prisons and juvenile detention centers.

Addressing this need we support:

1. The primary population including inmates, ex-inmates, half-way house residents, those on parole or probation, incarcerated youth at juvenile justice centers, and women in prison
2. The victims of the crime
3. Those working to control it, i.e. criminal justice professionals, law enforcement officers, prison officials and administrators.

Highlights of the Program

  • The first of its kind, it is progressive, practical and result-oriented, providing compassionate, innovative and effective solutions to breaking the cycles of violence and tackling escalating global crime rates.

  •  Most importantly, it offers prisoners the opportunity of genuine rehabilitation and integration into society.

  • The Sudarshana Kriya breathing technique, which completely roots out stress – the main cause of crime, primarily makes this possible.

  • They are given a vision and at the end of the program they are presented with a mission, as to how they can live better lives and contribute to society on their release.

  • SRIJAN (Social Rehabilitation of Inmates in Jail and Aiding the Needy) was started in India, which is an organization that teaches vocational skills during confinement, and empower inmate with skills that would make them independent on their release

Free Breath Water Sound Workshop

The workshop provides tools that improve over-all health, wellness and increases enthusiasm and mental focus. Participants learn simple yet powerful breathing, sound and meditation techniques which eliminate stress from the system so that the mind gains the clarity to solve problems - when individuals are uplifted the whole community is enriched.

A major component of the workshop is to
foster community development and service. The values of responsibility for oneself and the needs of others, teamwork, sharing and service are kindled through a number of processes. This ensures that a strong community spirit and ownership of society is built, with cultural appreciation encouraged. On closure of the course, participants choose to contribute to a group community project with the aim of uplifting and empowering the community in which they live.
